IMPORTANT TRAVEL REMINDER! - Interstate 84 to Close at Exit 30 in Southington Weekend of June 27-29, 2014 for Bridge Replacement Work

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is reminding motorists and travelers that Interstate 84 will be closed in both directions to all traffic at Exit 30, Marion Avenue in Southington, on Friday night June 27 and is scheduled to reopen Monday morning, June 30, 2014. MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS ARE ANTICIPATED! – MOTORISTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PLAN AHEAD, AVOID THE AREA, AND TO SEEK ALTERNATIVE ROUTES! Suggested alternate routes include I-91, I-691, Route 9 and Route 72. Local detours are established for residents and businesses in the area surrounding the construction site and signs will be posted.

DOT Issues RFPs for I-84 Widening Project in Waterbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation today issued Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the I-84 widening project between Exits 23 and 25A in Waterbury. The project will add a third lane in each direction in the 2.7-mile section of the interstate highway – an area that has been a particular bottleneck for years during rush hour.

ConnDOT eAlert: Construction News from the Connecticut Department of Transportation

Pavement Preservation Program – Interstate 91 in Hartford and Windsor

The purpose of this program is to enhance pavement performance by using cost-effective treatments to extend the service life of the existing pavements. A section of Interstate 91 in Hartford from the vicinity of the Sam Colt Building to approximately 600 feet south of Interchange 37 in Windsor has been identified as a candidate for this program. The Department is developing plans for pavement improvements by milling the existing wearing surface of Interstate 91 and its ramps and then overlaying it with new bituminous concrete asphalt.

Connecticut motorists are reminded that from June 5 to June 11, 2014, law enforcement will be conducting the fourth and final crackdowns on motorists who practice the dangerous behavior of driving while distracted. This effort is a part of the "Phone in One Hand. Ticket In the Other." enforcement campaign that combines periods of intense enforcement of texting laws with local media outreach to let people know about the enforcement and convince them to obey the law.
