DOT to Install Osprey Nest Platform on East Haddam Swing Bridge

In response to requests from local citizens and public officials, the Connecticut Department of Transportation will erect an osprey nest platform on the East Haddam swing bridge, which carries Route 82 over the Connecticut River between East Haddam and Haddam. Almost every year, ospreys build a nest on one of the bridge trusses. The new platform will be adjacent to the truss currently used by the ospreys.

CT DOT Prepared for Weekend Winter Storm – Entire Fleet Ready for Deployment – Motorists Advised to Restrict Travel and Use Caution on Roadways

With a moderate statewide winter-weather event forecast for Saturday, the DOT has readied its fleet of plow trucks, materials and personnel to clear and salt state roadways. The DOT plow fleet of 632 trucks, stationed at roughly 50 garages around the state, is prepared for deployment as weather conditions evolve. Current forecasts indicate that the entire state fleet will be in use. If needed, the Department can add 200 private contractors to further compliment state plow crews.

Interstate 84 Rest Areas in Willington To Be Closed for Repairs

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that renovation work will be performed at the rest areas in Willington along Interstate 84 in both directions. The rest areas will be closed beginning the first week of March 2015 and are expected to reopen in late October 2015.
