Community Connectivity Grant Program Funding for Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety and Improved Access to Community Centers

Web Version     Connecticut Department of Transportation Community Connectivity Grant Program Funding for Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety and Improved Access to Community Centers Posted on August 31 , 2020 The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced a third solicitation for Community Connectivity Grants to towns and cities across Connecticut to fund municipal construction projects. Five million dollars was approved by the State Bond Commission to fund the competitive grant program that supports pedestrian and bicycle safety and improved access to city and town centers for residents of the state.  The Community Connectivity Grant Program (CCGP) is an infrastructure improvement program that seeks to provide funding for local initiatives that will improve the safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians in urban, suburban and rural community centers. The primary program objective is to make conditions safer and more accommodating for pedestrians and cyclists, thereby encouraging more people to use these healthy and environmentally sustainable modes of travel. Another objective of the Community Connectivity Grant Program is to facilitate social and economic opportunities to underserved communities by providing equitable levels of access to affordable and reliable transportation. Making these improvements will make Connecticut's community centers more attractive and vibrant places to live and work. Several notable adjustments have been made to the program guidelines and selection criteria for the upcoming solicitation.  The funding limits for grant awards have increased to range between $125,000 and $600,000. In addition, general program objectives have been refined to reinforce the concept of transportation equity by connecting underserved communities. Web Version     Connecticut Department of Transportation CTDOT Announces Extension of Connecticut River Ferry Service Posted on August 24 , 2020 The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that service on the two Connecticut River ferries will be extended by an additional seven weeks, to October 25, 2020. Because of COVID-related precautions and COVID-incurred deficits in the Special Transportation Fund, the service on the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury and the Chester-Hadlyme ferries was to end on Labor Day this year, September 7. However, because of the state's success in keeping the coronavirus in check, the season will be extended. Social distancing, masks and other COVID guidelines will continue to be enforced. CTDOT will continue to monitor conditions and potential budget issues, and make additional changes/modifications to service as necessary. The Chester-Hadlyme ferry is operating between 7 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, and between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  The Rocky Hill-Glastonbury ferry operates Tuesday-Friday between 7 a.m. and 6-45 p.m. on weekdays, and 10:30 to 5 p.m. on weekends. # # #   Connecticut Department of Transportation 2800 Berlin Turnpike P.O. Web Version     Connecticut Department of Transportation CTDOT Seeks Input on Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and Public Information Procedures Posted on August 19 , 2020 The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is seeking public input as it updates its four-year Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and revised Public Involvement Procedures (PIP). Comments will be received at two virtual public information meetings on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. "Transportation supports our communities, quality of life and the economy underpinning the state," said CTDOT Commissioner Joseph J. Giulietti. "Virtually all aspects of day-to-day activity and necessities are supported or impacted by Connecticut's transportation infrastructure systems – our roads, bridges, buses, trains, sidewalks, multi-use path and ferries. So it is critical that we receive feedback from the public that we serve in order for us to tailor or projects, services and policies to best fit the needs of all stakeholders. Please, be part of the process. This is your opportunity to be heard." The 2021-2024 draft STIP covers a $3.865 billion program, listing all federally funded transportation improvements, by federal funding category and by region, which are scheduled to occur over the next four years in Connecticut, including capital and operational improvements to each transportation mode: including highway, bus, rail and bicycle facilities and amenities. In conjunction with the preparation of the STIP, CTDOT is also required to continually develop its Public Involvement Procedures (PIP). These are the procedures the department follows to ensure stakeholders are afforded notification and venues to share their concerns or questions. To that end, the department will be hosting two virtual public information meetings on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at 1:00 PM and again at 7:00 PM.  Details on how to join the virtual public meetings can be found here.
