The Connecticut Department of Transportation today issued Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the I-84 widening project between Exits 23 and 25A in Waterbury. The project will add a third lane in each direction in the 2.7-mile section of the interstate highway – an area that has been a particular bottleneck for years during rush hour.

Pavement Preservation Program – Interstate 91 in Hartford and Windsor
The purpose of this program is to enhance pavement performance by using cost-effective treatments to extend the service life of the existing pavements. A section of Interstate 91 in Hartford from the vicinity of the Sam Colt Building to approximately 600 feet south of Interchange 37 in Windsor has been identified as a candidate for this program. The Department is developing plans for pavement improvements by milling the existing wearing surface of Interstate 91 and its ramps and then overlaying it with new bituminous concrete asphalt.

State and Local Police Begin Fourth Crackdown of Distracted Driving Enforcement to Stop Texting While Driving
Connecticut motorists are reminded that from June 5 to June 11, 2014, law enforcement will be conducting the fourth and final crackdowns on motorists who practice the dangerous behavior of driving while distracted. This effort is a part of the "Phone in One Hand. Ticket In the Other." enforcement campaign that combines periods of intense enforcement of texting laws with local media outreach to let people know about the enforcement and convince them to obey the law.

Public Information Meeting Concerning Railroad Grade Crossing Improvements in Meriden
As a part of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program, improvements will be made at railroad grade crossings. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a public information meeting concerning railroad grade crossing improvements. The meeting will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller Street, Meriden, CT 06450.
