Plans Under Development for Mid-block Crosswalks on Route 137 (Washington Boulevard) between Tresser Boulevard and Broad Street in Stamford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Office of Engineering is developing plans to provide pedestrian access between the east and west sides of Route 137 by installing High-intensity Activated crossWalK beacon (HAWK) systems at two separate locations. An existing crosswalk located on Route 137, just south of Bell Street, would be upgraded and the existing traffic signal would be replaced with the HAWK system. A new pedestrian crosswalk with the HAWK system is also being proposed on Route 137 for access between the Mill River Park on the west side and parking garages on the east side of the roadway.

The DOT now has 60 days to review the three bids received and will then award a contract; some preliminary work will begin before the end of 2014, and full construction will begin in the spring of 2015.
