Nighttime Resurfacing on I-91 in Cromwell - Detour Required

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a nighttime milling and resurfacing project will be performed on I-91 northbound and southbound in Cromwell beginning Sunday, April 26, 2020.  A detour will be required.

The project consists of milling and resurfacing a 0.66-mile segment of I-91 Northbound & Southbound in Cromwell. The milling portion of this project is scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 26, 2020 to Tuesday, May 5, 2020. The resurfacing segment of this project is anticipated to begin on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 to Friday, May 22, 2020.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists can expect I-91 northbound and southbound lane closures and short-term Exit 21 on and off ramp detours in Cromwell from the Middletown Town Line to the North Road Overpass.  Traffic control personnel including State police and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone and the detours. The regular work schedule for this project is 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Sunday - Thursday).

DETOUR INFORMATION

  • I-91 northbound traffic will be detoured north along I-91 to Exit 22S, south onto Route 9 to Exit 19 (Route 372) back to the interchange. Motorists on Route 372 destined to the north will be directed west along Route 372 to Route 9 north to I-91 north.
  • I-91 southbound traffic will be detoured south to Exit 23, right onto Middle Street, right onto Smith Street and left onto Industrial Park Road back to the interchange. Route 372 motorists destined for the south will be directed along the aforementioned roads in reverse order to I-91 south.
